Siemens AG. is in negotiations with U.S. investor The Gores Group on the sale of the company's Siemens Enterprise Communications (SEN) unit, Financial Times Deutschland reported, citing financial sources.
In contrast, talks with U.S. private equity group Cerberus -- which has so far been considered most likely to succeed in a bid -- have been put on ice for now, the paper added, citing no sources.
Siemens and Cerberus declined to comment to the newspaper.
However, a Siemens spokesman told the paper that Siemens is in advanced negotiations with several interested parties.
Previous media reports also suggested Nortel Networks Corporation as another potential bidder.
In February, Siemens said it is planning to cut 3,800 jobs at SEN, of which up to 2,000 will be shed in Germany. In addition, the company will outsource 3,000 jobs at the unit, 1,200 of them in Germany.
