Siemens plans to hire 4,000 new employees in India in 2008

FRANKFURT (Thomson Financial) - Siemens AG. plans to hire 4,000 new Indian employees this year and aims to double its revenue in the country to more than 4 billion euros by 2010, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported, citing the head of the company's Indian business Armin Bruck.
Siemens will boost its research and development operations in India as part of the plan, he said, according to an excerpt of an article to be published Saturday.

India's universities churn out 350,000 graduates with engineering degrees per year, almost 10 times as many as in Germany, he said, adding that the average Indian engineer costs a quarter of what his German counterpart costs per hour.

'The country is on the verge of becoming the brain of the industrial society of the future,' Bruck was quoted as saying.
